Video Production Post-Move
I've been making videos on Youtube for a long time, off and on, and under channel names you've probably never heard of. I've also just been in media production overall for almost has of my life. Taking into account I'm 34 this year, that comes out to 17 years of learning on totally legal copies of Final Cut and Sony Vegas, internships, marketing jobs, freelance gigs, and of course content creation on good old Youtube (YT from here on out).
Ironically, I started my "most successful" YT channel during one of the absolute worst times in my life, that being my previous (and final) marketing job. I was depressed, burnt out, and tired of being yelled at for not knowing what someone wanted exactly every time even when he didn't say it out loud. So, I decided I wanted to make fun little videos talking about what I was playing at that moment. That just so happened to be Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins.

And I actually had fun?! I didn't think making videos COULD be fun anymore, so of course I really keep that momentum going and waited a whole 3 months to make another video. Eventually, I was let go from my job in marketing. This was both a great thing and also almost ruined my marriage.
Thankfully, things got better!
There's a point to all this preamble, I swear.
In mid-September 2025, my (at the time) very pregnant wife and I moved into our first house. We had been in small apartments since before we got married in 2018, so this was a big deal for us; a place to raise a family AND not have to worry about haring space with neighbors above or below us. Plus having a laundry space to ourselves was just soooooo attractive.
During the process of packing and moving, I told myself that I would use that time to take my annual "creative break", where I would do research and writing for my video content and step away from Davinci Resolve for 2 months; a way to prep content for the coming months of production.
And it's not like the move itself could be easy; we spent multiple days every week renovating and updating parts of the house so that it was not only going to be safe and clean to move into, but also ready in the event that the baby decided to show up early. Spoiler alert: he came right when he was meant to in mid-November.

Eventually, we got settles. We both went back to work, had a baby shower... and then suddenly it went from September to November and the baby was here. And of course, I hadn't started production on new content again.
And that's okay.
One thing that learned through a really, really good book was that it's okay to make a goal and then not meet the goal. Because what is a goal if not a series of steps to take to reach a predetermined outcome? I went through many of those steps that lead to my overall goal, but I fell just short. And again, that's okay.
As of January 4 2026, it has been over 7 months since I published a video of any substance and design. But on the other hand, in those 7 months I have done an incredible amount of work on our home, spent time with friends and family, learned to be a dad, and did a LOT of travel for my job. And I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

So with the baby rapidly approaching his 2nd month of life, I have started turning my thoughts to what production will look like again. I still have a massive basement renovation project looming, but I know that's not going to be something that is "finished" in 2026 (probably), but maybe it will. Maybe I'll find more free time in the day.
Nah, let's just take it as it comes, day by day!
